Sunday morning at Ibeshe Island of Oriade LCDA, Amuwo Odofin; It was all gloomy, in what used to be an ecstatic environment with no signs of celebration in the spirit of Eid el Adha; when the LAGFERRY Team paid a condolence visit to the bereaved family, particularly the OVORI OF IBESHE KINGDOM – HRM Oba Gausu Alani Rasaki; CHAIRMAN OF ORIADE LCDA – Hon. (Chief) Mrs. Ramotallahi Akinlola-Hassan and CHAIRMAN OF LAGOS BOAT OPERATORS – Mr. Lawal Babatunde.

On Friday evening, the eve of Sallah, a local boat with 19 passengers on board capsized at Mazamaza end of Mile 2 Inland Waterway channel, with no survivor!

Our Team used the solemn period to donate LIFEJACKETS for the use of the residents of the community.

We also assured the community and other riverine areas of Lagos State of the genuine commitment of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to the well being of the riverine populace, through steady investments in Waterfront Infrastructures, Modern Jetty Construction, Channelization & Dredging, Strengthening of the Regulatory Agency Oversight Functions – LASWA, Search and Rescue Facilities including a Floating Clinic Water Ambulance, Navigational Aids & Safety Control Center, and very importantly, the acquisition of locally built Ultra-Modern Boats for Commercial Operations of Lagos Ferry Services and the Local Boat Operators through collaboration with the private sector.

These deliberate actions of all-inclusive Boat Reform will further engender the full realization of the Multi-Modal Transportation System in the State with functional alternatives but interconnected Road, Rail and Water Transport Modes.

Mobility systems will be enhanced, Enabling Commerce and Promoting Tourism.

The government of Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu places premium value on the life of every Lagosian and will continue to make living, playing and working in Lagos easier, convenient and comfortable as security of lives & properties and welfare of the people remains its priority.

We pray for peaceful repose of the departed souls and comfort for the bereaved family, amen.
