It was a day of fun, glitz and glamour as women from all walks of life came together on the Lagos waterways to celebrate, inspire and motivate other women as part of activities to commemorate this year’s International Women’s Day themed “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”.

The event, held on top of the 180 tonnage barge, “Adimu Orisha”, of the Lagos Ferry Services (LAGFERRY) and sailing from the Five Cowries Terminal, Ikoyi, had on board various women, A list celebrities and motivational speakers, who spoke to inspire and highlights women achievements around the world.

The host, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu on Lottery, Funmi Olotu, enjoined women to continue to break the barriers of limitation and advocate the need for gender equality stating that the Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration policies are geared towards ensuring women are given the opportunity to lead at different levels for the progress and development of the society as a whole.

Guest Speaker of the day, an author and major empowerment enthusiast, Nkiru Olumide-Ojo, admonished women to always speak up for other women saying women possesses all the best qualities of beauty, bravery, smartness and courage.

“Use your voice for other women and this can be done by speaking up for other women by amplifying her story and messages”. She stated.

Speaking on their experience on the waterways the duo of Kate Henshaw and Funke Akindele- Bello stated that they had so much fun while onboard and didn’t even know when they took off and started sailing from the terminal.

While savouring the ambiance of the Lagos coastline through the Civic Tower to the popular Lekki-Ikoyi link bridge to Banana Island and back at the Five Cowries Terminal, the duo described the experience as smooth and nice, commending LAGFERRY and Lagos State Goverment for providing the opportunity.

Other prominent guest in attendance includes the Vice Chairperson of Eti-Osa Local Government and Onigbongbo LCDA, Princess Adeola Omotoro and Hon. Olufunke Rekiya Hassan, Adunni Adewale , Morayo Brown , Ini Edo, Latasha Ngwube.
